CrossFit Iowa Owner/Trainer

Angie Starmer , owner of CrossFit Iowa, is a Certified level I CrossFit Instructor and has received her Olympic Weightlifting Certification in May of 2009.  In 2008, Angie placed 2nd the annual National Fight Gone Bad II Competition for elite women.  She also has extensive education in nutrition and has taught seminars for clients, home school students, and the Des Moines Police Academy.  As a trainer, her strengths include the ability to quickly evaluate and scale a fitness regimen and the ability to stay positive and encourage students and athletes to perform their best.  Angie's continued dedication to the study of human movement have allowed her to become an extremely motivational instructor. Her genuine commiment to the well being of others, her personal performance and training and her dedication to the fitness community are what make her an excellent physical trainer.  Angie's motto is "Spirit, mind, and body: in that order..."

Starmer is also a 1998 Graduate of Iowa State University from the College of Design, is married, and is a home school mother of three. Jon Alexander

CrossFit Iowa Trainer

Jon Alexander is a Certified CrossFit Level I Trainer and will be attending the Nutrition Certification in April of '09.  He is 22 years old and has been training and teaching CrossFit Methodology for almost three years.   CrossFit Iowa has proudly recongnized Jon as a very talented and effective trainer who has been volunteering his expertise for 1 1/2 years. His background includes various sports such as Football, Baseball, and Golf and has been a one year trainer with a previous Fitness Center.  He currently has an associates degree in Criminal Justice from DMACC.

Cliff Harris

Trident Martial Arts, Kettlebell and CrossFit Instructor

Cliff Harris has been training and teaching martial arts for over 13 years.  He is a full instructor in Trident Defense Systems (TDS) under 22-year Navy Seal veteran Pat Tray, earned while training at Trident Academy in Woodbridge, Virginia, from 1999-2006.  In 2001, Cliff began teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and later Combat Submission Wresting (CSW), at Trident Academy. Cliff also assisted in teaching Muay Thai, Filipino Martial Arts, and Jeet Kune Do.  He earned his CSW Coach Level II under Erik Paulson in March of 2003, received his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt under Pedro Sauer in October 2003, and became a Muay Thai/Thai Boxing instructor under Ajarn Surachai Sirisute and the Thai Boxing Association of USA in April 2005.  He trained exclusively with all of these instructors including Guro Dan Inosanto, and attended camps with Ajarn Chai in Oregon, Saurer in Utah and Brazil, and Paulson in California.  Cliff also started training with kettlebells in 2003 after personal lessons with Steve Maxwell in Pennsylvania.  He became a certified instructor under Valery Fedorenko and the American Kettlebell Club (AKC) in November in 2007.
